NYISO Generation Asset Monitor Update | NYISO Generation Asset Monitor Blog

This update provides a high-level overview of our recently published NYISO Generation Asset Monitor (GAM) report and database.  The NYISO GAM tracks the Interconnection queues for additions, forecasts plant retirements and plants deemed at risk of retirement, and provides an outlook for the timeline of renewable generation projects in PJM, MISO, NYISO and ISO-NE.

NYISO’s latest GAM Update includes:

  • Status of all projects with active generator interconnection queues in NYISO.
  • Potential impacts of the Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE) beginning underwater installation.
  • NYISO’s New Standard Interconnection Procedures Reducing Queue Capacity.

The reduction in queue capacity is mostly attributed to NYISO’s new procedures.  While FERC approval is still pending, NYISO commenced implementation and the changes are effective as of May 2, 2024.  Note that a part of the new procedures that projects that have not reached key milestones in the interconnection process were withdrawn from the queue.

Note that ESAI Power publishes the NYISO Generation Asset Monitor monthly as part of our Benchmark Energy Research, and the monthly GAM updates also cover PJM, MISO and ISO-New England.
